Aerospace and Defense MBA Program 2010 Academic Calendar

Aerospace and Defense MBA– The THRUST Of Our Program
In the Aerospace and Defense MBA, we study the business of aerospace and defense.  We offer a program designed for your industry with classes in operations excellence, accounting, finance, marketing, economics, human resources, and business development.  It all is delivered in an integrated curriculum, often using case studies from the aerospace and defense industry.  Students learn from faculty as well as peers, surrounded by classmates with diverse experiences in a common industry.

 High-Compression Learning
You will complete a custom MBA from a top-ranked business school in only one year. Students attend six, week-long residence periods (RPs), coming to Knoxville for five and attending one abroad to study international business. You complete readings and out-of-class assignments between RPs and spend campus time learning from faculty and industry peers. There is an internet-based, distance-learning seminar every other Thursday evening between RPs to complement in-residence learning.

International Residence Period
We spend one residence period abroad to study implications of the global economy.  The trip and it's related studies highlight opportunities and challenges outside the U.S. as we visit business activities and leaders from government and industry.

Million-Dollar Project
Students work with faculty and their corporate sponsors on a year-long project to apply lessons learned in the MBA curriculum to a strategic company need. To deliver a strong return on investment, projects must produce a $1 million impact (minimum). Students work with a faculty advisor specializing in their topic to drive change and deliver value.

Leadership Development
At UT, we grow more than just your credentials. Before you attend a class, co-workers and supervisors provide a 360° Feedback Assessment while you complete a battery of industry-standard surveys to identify your strengths and weaknesses. We assign each student a leadership development coach to help him/her execute a year-long plan for personal growth and change.

The Marketplace Simulation
As a culminating “capstone” project to pull it all together, we end the year with a three-day marketplace simulation. In this corporate “wargame,” you and your teammates will create and run your own company, competing with other teams from your class to see who can make it in the marketplace.
